Different Tempers and Forms of 6061 Aluminum
6061 aluminum plate is a precipitation-hardened aluminum alloy, containing magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. Although its strength can't compare with 2xxxx series or 7xxx series, it has excellent processing performance, excellent corrosion resistance, excellent oxidation and god welding characteristics.
Different tempers of 6061 aluminum has a little difference in the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation. There are three main tempers: T6, F, O. The T6 temper is the most used of the 6061 aluminum alloys. After the solution heat treatment, it can be straightened and leveled without affecting the mechanical properties.
The F temper is the free processing state of 6061 aluminum alloy. Its whole process usually has 3 days. The customer can process the F temper further according to his own needs through heat treatment.
The O temper is a state in which the 6061 aluminum alloy is completely annealed to obtain the lowest strength. The thin 6061 aluminum plate below 8.0 mm can adopt this temper. The whole production cycle is second only to the T6 state.
